Memorial Day Weekend 2009.
The City of Miami Beach is committed to providing excellent public service to all who live, work and play in the City. Memorial Day Weekend is expected, once again, to bring large numbers of visitors to our beautiful city. The City of Miami beach has been planning diligently to implement a comprehensive and coordinated Major Events Plan (MEP) and will be enhancing staffing from Thursday, May 21 through Monday, May 25 to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the city and to see cooperation with respect to the City’s quality of life issues.

Miami Beach Events at Public Venues
Miami Beach Police Station:
Memorial Day Ceremony, Monday, May 25, 10:00 a.m., Color Guard, officials, and U.S. veterans.
Goodwill Ambassador Volunteers/God Squad
Goodwill Ambassadors will be assisting the City during the holiday, as they have during other recent major events. The primary role of these civilian volunteers is to serve as a buffer or liaison between the city and the visitors to the City during major events and busy holiday weekends. The teams will be wearing T-shirts identifying themselves as Goodwill Ambassadors.

Traffic & Parking Restrictions
Ocean Drive will be open to vehicular traffic throughout the weekend unless closure is required for public safety and crowd control measures. Washington and Collins avenues will remain two-way traffic. Beginning Friday, May 22 at 7:00 p.m. through Monday, May 25 at 7:00 a.m., some access to the east/west streets (100 and 200 blocks) between Washington Avenue and Ocean Drive, 6th to 15th streets, will be restricted. Local residents with the proper zoned decals will be allowed to park. Alleys must be maintained clear of vehicles at all times and will be strictly enforced.

Collins Avenue
No street parking will be allowed on Collins Avenue between 8 Street and Espanola Way. As pedestrian flow often exceeds sidewalk capacity on Collins Avenue and creates a public safety concern, the City will be utilizing the parking lane along the eastside of Collins Avenue from 8th Street – Espanola Way as an extended pedestrian path. Barricades will be placed along the exterior of the parking lane in these designated areas to allow for the extension. As a result, parking in this area of Collins Avenue will be restricted starting Wednesday, May 20, – Monday, May 25. Valet operations will also be moved – check with the hotel
for location.

Free Bus Transportation: The South Beach Local
The South Beach Local (bus service) will operate free beginning at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25. The buses will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Friday & Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Sunday and Monday.
Numerous stops along South Beach and services run every 10 to 15 minutes.

Special Parking
All city-owned parking lots and garages will have normal operations, with the exception of the Convention Center Parking Lot,
which will offer a $15.00 flat rate (includes free shuttle on The South Beach Local).

Information Hotlines:
